When Christian Science was first...

When Christian Science was first presented to me, I was suffering from a sinus condition. I was taking pills, having injections, and visiting a doctor twice weekly. When I felt that there was no hope of being cured, my husband, who is not a Christian Scientist, asked me if I would talk to a woman he knew who had been healed in Christian Science. This I did, and she lovingly spoke to me of God.

Although I did not understand what was said, I listened; and that night for the first time in years I slept without taking any pills. The following day I asked to be taken to the Christian Science Reading Room, where I bought the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. For a month I read nothing but this wonderful textbook, and I attended a Church of Christ, Scientist, regularly. In three months I threw all my pills away. I was healed.

The doctor called by telephone and wanted to know why I had missed my treatments. I said that I would call on him and explain. This I did, standing firm in the truth, for I knew that I could not serve both matter and Spirit. Mrs. Eddy tells us regarding such an attempt (ibid., p. 360), "Like a pendulum in a clock, you will be thrown back and forth, striking the ribs of matter and swinging between the real and the unreal." I told the doctor that Christian Science had helped me so much that I was giving up medical aid, and I thanked him for his efforts to help me. As I was walking out of his office, I felt as if I were walking on air and as if a great load had been lifted from my shoulders. Since that time my only physician has been God, and I rely solely upon Him for all my needs.
