In these days of turbulence and...
In these days of turbulence and world unrest Christian Scientists have much cause to rejoice that they know a peace which is forever present. It is for this unspeakable peace that I wish to give grateful testimony of thanks.
At one time in the increasingly frantic effort to find peace of mind I grabbed at every straw of hope that came along. Sleeping pills were taken in ever-larger quantity in the futile effort to gain peaceful rest at night. During my waking hours comfort was sought in alcoholic beverages. I was becoming alarmingly dependent on these two methods of escape; and though this danger was realized, I was unable to control the situation.
I should like to mention that there was in my experience an abundance of nearly everything that mortal mind tells us is required for happiness; so it is clear that no change of material conditions would have solved my problem. When Christian Science was presented to me I was most willing to turn wholeheartedly to it and away from the sleeping pills and alcohol. I do not know just when the healing took place, but one day I realized that my rest at night had been peaceful and undisturbed. Though not so immediately apparent, the frantic rush and nervous pressure in my daily round surely and steadily vanished
