I am deeply indebted to God for...

I am deeply indebted to God for the preservation of my life. Through the revelation of our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, who discovered Christian Science and gave it to the world, I have gained an understanding of what God is and of man's relationship to Him as His beloved child. In an effort to make a small payment on my debt of gratitude to God I relate the following experience.

One day while making a run as a freight conductor on a railroad I read at random from a small pocket edition of the Bible which I carried with me. Everything I read brought out the life-preserving power of God. As a result, I felt led to do some prayerful mental work along this line, and I affirmed the truths we learn in Christian Science that God is Life and that man is inseparable from this eternal Life.

That night on our return trip home we arrived at a city where we had to leave some of our cars and pick up others. After receiving waybills and a list of the cars we had picked up I gave the signal to proceed, climbed on top of the cars, and started walking along the top, checking the numbers on the ends of the cars against the list I had received.
