HOW CHRISTIAN SCIENCE HEALS January 30, 1954 Issue

RADIO PROGRAM - Sickness Is Against the Law of God

The account of healing was given by Miss Kathleen E. Starnes of Chicago, Illinois, who said:

At one time when I was many miles from my home, I suffered from what was diagnosed by a medically trained friend as nervous prostration. It took the form of extreme exhaustion, sleeplessness, and loss of appetite. I was having the help of one who was experienced in healing by prayer—a Christian Science practitioner. It became necessary for a day and night nurse to be in attendance—both were Christian nurses. The condition grew steadily worse until I finally lapsed into unconsciousness. My parents were notified and told that my condition was critical.

The night the telegram was sent to my home, the Christian Science practitioner who was praying for me remained in the room with me. For many years this practitioner had recognized God's law of love to be ever present in her own experience. In this emergency she prayed for a clearer realization of the presence of this divine law—the proof of God's love for His creation. I don't know how long this prayer—which we call Christian Science treatment—continued, but I do remember that toward morning I suddenly became aware of a feeling of strength, although I had not eaten nor slept normally for several weeks. I sat up in bed. I knew that I was healed. I shall never forget the peace that came with this experience, nor can I ever be too grateful for the added understanding gained of man's spiritual being as the beloved child of God, for it was the culmination of many months of diligent study of Christian Science.
