PROGRESS
Progress
is a word of challenge
To man's upward-soaring thought,
And to compass its achievement
Men and nations long have sought.
What is progress? Are its blessings
Linked to human place and power,
Pride of intellect or station?
Such is not progression's dower.
Hearts ripe with the fruits of Spirit,
Redolent with thoughts of God,
Holy purpose, deeds of service,
Mark the paths by progress trod.
Christian unity is progress,
Dwelling in the secret place;
Progress is God's law unfolding
Inspiration, peace, and grace.
How enriched are men and nations
That such fruitage have possessed,
Proving by abundant harvests
Progress has their pathways blessed.
