FROM ANNUAL REPORTS OF CHRISTIAN SCIENCE COMMITTEES ON PUBLICATION

Friendly Relations with the Press

Devonshire, England

We have received greater support from the editors this year, and this is due to a considerable extent to the friendly relations which have been made and maintained by the Assistant Committees with the editors and their staffs.

The two outstanding features were the publication in full in the Tavistock Gazette of the lecture given by First Church of Christ, Scientist, Plymouth, and the use of a quotation of our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, in the Mid-Devon Times to describe the beauty of a Devonshire scene. The quotation was from "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (p. 129): "The oracular skies, the verdant earth—bird, brook, blossom, breeze, and balm—are richly fraught with divine reflection." The use of these words happened in this way. The Gems of Thought for the month, which included this quotation, lay on the editor's desk when a charming photograph of Hex-worthy Bridge was brought to him. The two lay side by side, and as the editor's eve passed from one to the other, he thought how beautifully these words of our Leader's fitted with the loveliness of the earthly scene.
