About twelve years ago a Christian Scientist...

About twelve years ago a Christian Scientist came to live in our city, and I shall always be grateful for the love and help she extended to me in pointing the way to Christian Science. For over ten years this Science has been my only medicine. One of my first healings was of constipation. I have also been healed of severe headaches by realizing that the harmony of man's being is uninvadable. The daily study of the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly is a source of joy to me, and the truths that are expressed therein act as a preventive from the vagaries of mortal mind.

At one time we received word that our son was very ill in a hospital in another state, and my husband and I were requested to visit him. I endeavored to think about the situation as we are taught in Christian Science, but after much prayerful work I was still worried and unhappy. Then a voice within said, "You are supposed to rejoice." I thought, "How can I rejoice under the circumstances?" At once the answer came, "Rejoice that the evidence of the senses is untrue." We happily proceeded on our journey, and upon arriving at our destination we were met by our son, who had been released from the hospital as completely well.

On another occasion I was faced with the problem of taking into our home a partially blind relative. I was fearful that I would be deprived of peace and quietness, as well as of time for study. I worked on the problem for three days and nights, feeling ill as a result of my worry. While doing some study in preparation for my yearly association meeting I came to the assuring words (Ps. 119:165), "Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them." A marginal note in the Bible I was using gave this interpretation: "They shall have no stumbling block." I received light at once, for I could see that whatever was required of me could present no stumbling block. Great peace came over me, and I slept. When I awakened I felt entirely free. In Proverbs we read (10:22), "The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it." I realized that obligations fulfilled with the right attitude would be rich with blessings for all concerned; and so it has proved to be. Our peaceful and happy home has been a blessing to the relative, and we ourselves have also been blessed.
