My reading of Mrs. Eddy's statement...

My reading of Mrs. Eddy's statement in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 185), "Self-renunciation of all that constitutes a so-called material man, and the acknowledgment and achievement of his spiritual identity as the child of God, is Science that opens the very flood-gates of heaven," brought to my thought a healing I had over thirty years ago.

I was alone in a city fifteen hundred miles from home; my money was running low, and I was ill with fear. A short time before, Christian Science treatment had healed me in a week of a chronic disorder for which a specialist had previously treated me for a year with no permanent benefit. However, I had never met the practitioner who helped me, and all I knew of Christian Science was that it heals.

Now terrified at the thought of my being ill among strangers so far from home, I decided to see a practitioner in the town. She proved to be indeed "an interpreter, one among a thousand" (Job 33:23), and the few minutes I spent with her changed the whole course of my life. She said to me, "You are God's own beloved child," and I saw with sudden sharp clarity that this was true, and that consequently I had nothing to fear. That identification, with my instant acceptance of it, was a true conversion, a turning of thought from belief in a material selfhood to a degree of awareness of my real being, for I was healed. It lifted my thought from a physical body, so that when I left her house I seemed to be moving in a new world.
