One's first attendance at a Christian Science...
One's first attendance at a Christian Science Church service, Reading Room, or lectures may be looked upon as a waymark of spiritual growth. My first attendance at a Church of Christ, Scientist, in Liverpool, England, more than twenty years ago was a waymark in my experience. Only then did I glimpse the infinite possibilities of life governed by Principle, not by personal sense.
Having been baptized and confirmed in the Church of England, my concepts of God, man, and the universe had been acquired largely during the so-called formative years as a Sunday School pupil in that church. Consequently, before reading any Christian Science literature, I had a foundational knowledge of the Scriptures. Later, when I sought a logical viewpoint on human existence in religions and philosophies, I found myself guided into a Christian Science church. For the first time since childhood I found peace. I also learned that the teachings of Christian Science are based solely on the King James Version of the Bible and that they do not deviate in any way from the teachings of Christ Jesus.
Christian Science threw a spiritual light upon the Holy Scriptures for me, relating them to my needs and proving that the trouble which beset one are not real or God-bestowed. As in Jesus' time, the presence of the Christ replaces fear with love, heals sickness and sin, overcomes death, and thus demonstrates God's love as supreme over all. Through reading the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I experienced my first healing, which was that of sleeplessness. Next, my hearing was restores to normalcy.
