For the countless ways in which...
For the countless ways in which Christian Science has blessed me during my entire life, I can never adequately express my gratitude. I am very grateful for the Christian Science Sunday School, which I attended for eighteen years, and for a wise mother, who early saw the importance of encouraging me to do my own metaphysical work.
When I was a small child playing in a vacant lot one Saturday, I stepped into a hole occupied by a nest of yellow jackets. The insects attacked me: there were hornets in my clothing and shoes. I was stung from head to toe, and my eyes were almost closed with the swelling. My mother, after talking to me of Love and instilling in me a feeling of love for all God's creatures, and explaining that I had unintentionally destroyed the home of the hornets, sent me to my room with my own copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. I read familiar passages, and in a short time, although the evidence was not entirely gone, I went outside to play again with the other children. The next day I went to Sunday School, and there was no mark to show that I had gone through this experience.
When I was just out of high school I spent a year in a foreign country, living with relatives who were not Christian Scientists. This was my first experience far from home, with no parent to turn to in time of need. A fall from a bicycle caused an injury which presented a very unlovely picture of a badly swollen and discolored leg. The knee was also swollen, and I suffered extreme pain in walking. The only person who saw my injury urged me to see a doctor, but I said that I could take care of it; and this I did by turning wholeheartedly to God, without anyone else being aware of the condition. The next morning I was able to walk a long way to fulfill an obligation, and needless to say, I have never had any recurrence of the trouble.
A few years ago, when visiting relatives of my husband, in the dark I entered the wrong door and fell headlong down a long and steep flight of stairs. As I fell I consciously declared the presence and protection of God, and I felt that He was with me, upholding and protecting me. By the time my husband came to the top of the stairs I was standing, and my first words to him were, "I am all right." Although I had a black eye and an injury to my right hand, these were healed within two days.
I have experienced many other healings in Christian Science, including those of greatly enlarged and infected tonsils, so-called childhood diseases, scarlet fever, and sprained ankles. Also faulty traits of character are giving way to a better expression of God's nature.
I am thankful for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church and for class instruction. I rejoice in being able to serve the Cause of Christian Science through active participation in branch church work. Above all I am grateful for the love and consecration of our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, whose inspired and elevated thought enabled her to reveal the great healing truth to the entire world.—(Mrs.) Nancy Babcock Mount, Los Angeles, California.
It is a pleasure to verify my wife's testimony, and I wish to add my gratitude to God for her protection in the fall downstairs.
During the war we were both in the Navy, and there were many experiences in those years for which we are both grateful. We were always able to find a suitable home, which I like to think of as expressing the harmony of Mind. I am particularly grateful for God's protection at all times and for the privilege of helping to establish Christian Science services at a naval base on Guam.
We are very grateful for the harmonious way in which we took up civilian life after leaving the Navy. An increasingly clear concept of home led us to find, in a crowded city, comfortable and attractive rental quarters and finally a home of our own.
Church membership and active church work have proved inspiring and conducive to my spiritual growth in the study of Christian Science.—John Robert Mount, Los Angeles, California.
I am happy to verify the testimony of my daughter and to add to it my expression of great gratitude for all that Christian Science has done for our family during many years.
I have relied on Christian Science to meet all my needs ever since young girlhood, and I am most grateful for its unfailing support at all times.—(Mrs.) Elaine Fielder Babcock, South Pasadena, California.
