Late one afternoon I fell to the floor and suddenly realized that I was completely paralyzed. My thinking, however, remained clear, and I was not afraid. As I lifted my thought to God these words found in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy came to me (p. 283): "Mind is the source of all movement, and there is no inertia to retard or check its perpetual and harmonious action." Though I could not move or speak, I clung steadfastly to this thought.
I have no idea how long I lay on the floor, but a neighbor who is a Christian Scientist came to my door and called to me that she had some flowers for me. She knew that I was in, and when I failed to answer she sensed that something was wrong and, with the help of another neighbor, broke the hook of the screen door. As she came up the hall she was singing a hymn from the Christian Science Hymnal (No. 145), and I heard these words:
