I should like to express my gratitude...
I should like to express my gratitude for Christian Science. Many years ago a friend told me that her husband had been healed of stiffness of the knees through Science after the doctors had told him that although they could operate, there was a possibility his knees would become permanently stiff. The operation was not performed. Christian Science was presented to him, and through his study and with the help of a practitioner he was completely healed. The time I saw him after his healing he was running up and down on the ice curling, a game that needs perfect freedom of knee action. While this healing impressed me, I did not think much more about it.
Shortly afterward I moved to another city. Just across the street from where I lived was a Church of Christ, Scientist, and I learned that there were some Christian Scientists living in the same house as I and that they attended the church. I too began attending the services and was led to secure a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. I read this book through and then began to study the Lesson-Sermons as given in the Christian Science Quarterly.
Some years later I suffered a hemorrhage caused by an erroneous condition of long standing. I asked a practitioner for help and had an instantaneous and complete healing. At another time I was healed instantaneously of ptomaine poisoning. Both these healings have been permanent. My granddaughter, who was living with me, had a very bad sore just above one of her ears. Several doctors had been consulted before she came to live with me, but she had received no help. I wrote to a loving practitioner and asked for treatment for my granddaughter. As the sore did not clear up at once, I wrote her again, saying I would go to see her. She replied that she would be glad to see me, but that it was not necessary, for "now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation" (II Cor. 6:2). The sore healed at once and has never returned. Many other troubles have been overcome, some with the help of a practitioner and some through my own understanding.
I am truly greatful to God for Christian Science. I am thankful for Mrs. Eddy's teachings, for the practitioners who are always ready and willing to help us in time of need, for membership in The Mother Church, for the Reading Rooms, and for the Christian Science literature.—(Mrs.) Lily M. Rutherford, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
