Christian Science has indeed brought many blessings into my life, for which I shall never cease to be grateful. I have experienced many physical healings.

A few years ago I was taken ill whilst at work, experienced a great sense of pain, and was obliged to return home. A Christian Science practitioner was called, and work was taken up at once. At that time a medical certificate was needed for leave of absence from work; so a doctor was sent for. I informed the doctor that I was having Christian Science treatment and asked her if she would be willing, under the circumstances, to give me the necessary certificate. This she eventually consented to do, but the opinion was expressed that from a medical point of view an operation was necessary; and she made it clear that what I was doing was entirely on my own responsibility. One thing for which I was most grateful throughout this experience was that I had no fear at all, although conditions during the first few days were rather alarming and at times the pain was intense.

One day when the condition seemed to be at its worst the words of Mary Baker Eddy on page 276 of "Miscellaneous Writings" came to me: "When a false sense suffers, the true sense comes out, and the bridegroom appears. We are then wedded to a purer, higher affection and ideal." I saw clearly that what seemed to be suffering was only the false mortal concept I entertained of myself, that in reality I was not material but spiritual and therefore physical suffering was no part of me at all. A feeling of comfort and peace came to me, and although the healing was not manifested immediately, in a few days I was completely healed and able to return to work.
