Christian Science was introduced...

Christian Science was introduced in my family when I was a small child, and I began attending the Christian Science Sunday School at the age of three. Since that time God has been my only physician and "a very present help in trouble" (Ps. 46:1). I am so grateful to the Sunday School teachers, whose instructions have helped me overcome many obstacles. Hardly a problem arises without some statement of truth I learned in Sunday School being applicable to heal the situation. Therefore I am profoundly grateful that our children are having the privilege of attending the Christian Science Sunday School in our community.

I was reared in a Christian Science home and am very grateful for the protection, security, health, and happiness experienced there.

At a time when I was faced with discord I realized that I could no longer depend upon my mother to make demonstrations of Truth for me, because she was miles away. With the consecrated help of a practitioner and through my own study many ills were overcome, including those of scabies, boils, pneumonia, various so-called childhood diseases, and others too numerous to mention. I have had many occasions to prove that "trials are proofs of God's care" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 66).

I am grateful for freedom from a false sense of responsibility in regard to our three children. One morning when I was preparing to go to church I noticed that one of the children had mumps. I had a position to fill at the service, and I realized that not to go because of the erroneous manifestation would be to see it as real. This passage from John (10:29): "My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand," was called to mind, and I knew that the child would be safe in God's care. Upon my return from church she was up and playing, and by evening all trace of swelling was gone.

At one time the three children and I were riding along in our open truck when one of the girls fell over the side. I almost unconsciously reached in her direction and caught the back of her dress. Except for a slightly bumped nose, she was unhurt. Later I expressed thanks to God that I had had the presence of mind to reach for her. Then I thought, What is presence of mind? Immediately I saw that with proper capitalization the presence of Mind is God's allness and ever-presence, encompassing and protecting. I have had opportunity to be grateful for this understanding of the presence of Mind many times.

I have experienced three harmonious, quick, and painless childbirths, brought about by a careful study of what Mrs. Eddy says about the unfoldment of new ideas.

Recently, when discord in the family was very prevalent, the periodicals brought me daily fresh inspiration and encouragement, especially the religious articles in The Christian Science Monitor. And then when the day seemed darkest the words of Hymn No. 148 in the Christian Science Hymnal strengthened and sustained me, and the burden lifted.

In the words of Paul (II Cor. 9:15), "Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift." I am grateful to Mary Baker Eddy for presenting Christian Science to the world.—(Mrs.) Norma E. Schultz, San Mateo, California.
