More than twenty-five years ago I was healed of tuberculosis. I was examined by five doctors. X-ray pictures showed my lungs to be in an advanced stage of this disease. The doctors said that if I did not follow their instructions, I would not live over six months.

At the earnest entreaty of one of my sisters, I left the comparatively warm, dry climate of Oklahoma and moved to her home in Illinois on the shores of Lake Michigan. The doctors warned that I would never survive the winter.

This sister believed that I could be healed by reading Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy; so at her urgent request, although I did not believe that the reading of the book would heal me, to please her I persistently read daily and tried conscientiously to understand what I read.
