JEAN ELSIE SANDERS

During World War II a young Christian Scientist was waiting at the induction center for his papers to be processed. When his turn came, he asked the officer in charge if he could be sent to a government school to be trained as a chaplain's assistant.

"Can you write shorthand?" the officer asked.

"No, sir."
