"TOUCH NOT THE UNCLEAN THING"

The quotation in the title is taken from the Bible, the entire verse reading (II Cor. 6:17), "Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you."

Mary Baker Eddy, the beloved Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, in her writings counsels her followers to watch their thinking. The above verse also implies this, and we watch our thinking by identifying ourselves only with the truth of being, acknowledging our real selfhood to be spiritual individuality, not material personality. The Bible tells us (Gen. 1:26), "And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness." If God, Spirit, made man in His image and likeness, then man is not mateiral; he is the embodiment of all the qualities of God.

Mrs. Eddy makes plain the result of watching our thinking where she says in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 261), "Hold thought steadfastly to the enduring, the good, and the true, and you will bring these into your experience proportionably to their occupancy of your thoughts." So long as we accept the erroneous belief that life is in matter, just so long we suffer from the claims of mortal mind. It is evident that holding to a false concept of existence will not bring joy and abundance into our experience. This holds true with a physical problem as well. We cannot expect health and normalcy to be manifested if we continue to believe that man is diseased or discordant in any way.
