Refugee rehabilitated. Finds friendship, health, and joy

[Original testimony in French]

The Russian Revolution drove me from country and family. I left Russia without any means of support. Arriving in France with a group of workers, I found work in a Paris factory. The management of the factory lodged us in old abandoned barracks. Life seemed unbearable, without a future, without friends, with nothing but very hard work. Among my fellow workers I found two who attracted my attention, a father and son. They lived apart from the others and were always happy and friendly. Later they became my best friends. Through them I first heard of Christian Science, but at the time I was not interested.

Force of circumstances separated me from my friends, and I again fell into extreme despair, being homesick and separated from all those who were dear to me. Above all. I was suffering from a painful illness which absorbed all my means. I was advised to have an operation. It was then that Christian Science was again presented to me. This time I attended church with deep joy. Having read a little about Christian Science, I went to see a practitioner, who began to give me help. From that time on with each new day my life became more joyous, more radiant. I turned from my doctors and medicines, and the chronic illness began to disappear from my consciousness and finally disappeared entirely.

I do not know how to express my gratitude to Mary Baker Eddy for her discovery of Christian Science. —Wladimir Monastiroff, Paris, France.
