Prayer provides protection during landing operation

The first healing that I remember was an instantaneous one. I was about six years old and was feeling very ill. An aunt, who was a Christian Science practitioner, set me on her lap and gave me a treatment in Christian Science. When she put me down, I was healed. I still remember the happy feeling that I had, the joy of being well again, and the spiritual uplift that came with the treatment.

The first Sunday School that I attended was the Christian Science Sunday School. Here I was taught the truth of God and man. The teaching that was most clear to me was that of God's allness. This teaching has remained with me through the years. Many times it has been put to severe tests. The following statement from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy has meant much to me, and I have proved it many times (p. 421): "Insist vehemently on the great fact which covers the whole ground, that God, Spirit, is all, and that there is none beside Him."

For a number of years my healings in Christian Science were instantaneous, so I concluded that all healings in Science should occur without delay. But since then I have learned that many times healings are not instantaneous because we hold on to error. The error may seem to be something too unimportant to be worthy of our consideration. At one time I had a slow healing in Christian Science and learned that it is "the little foxes, that spoil the vines" (S. of Sol. 2:15) and that it is well to watch those seemingly unimportant errors and not to let them get a foothold. Mrs. Eddy says (Science and Health, p. 234), "You must control evil thoughts in the first instance, or they will control you in the second."
