Healing of asthma brings new understanding

For a long time the testimonies in the periodicals have been a great blessing to me; indeed, at one time when I felt that I was without a right sense of companionship, in answer to prayer the inspiration came to regard the testifiers as my companions. They too had been faced with problems and were eager to share their experiences with all who would appreciate their efforts to prove problems unreal under the guidance of God, divine Principle, Love, as taught us in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. It is in deep gratitude to God and to our beloved Leader that I offer this testimony.

After ten years of suffering I was healed of asthma. The healing came slowly, but for this experience I am very grateful because from it I learned enough of Christian Science to uncover and destroy the leading error in my false concept of life. Mrs. Eddy's words in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 118), "The warfare with one's self is grand," were a great encouragement; also this statement on page 466 of Science and Health: "Moreover, Truth is real, and error is unreal. This last statement contains the point you will most reluctantly admit, although first and last it is the most important to understand." My healing was made manifest through the realization that man is spiritual.

One day in August, 1940, I was cleaning the dining room. I had cleaned the carpet and had placed the heavy furniture on it and started polishing. While I was doing this, condemnation crept into my thought because that morning I had not done my usual Christian Science studying. I left my work then and there and did some reading. After this I felt uplifted and peaceful. Before resuming work, I walked onto the porch to attend to the baby. I took her from her perambulator, and together with the oldest child, who was with me, I went into the dining room. Without warning, bombs dropped near by. It was our first experience of air raids in the late war. When the windows, which run the length of the outer wall, fell in, the furniture protected us all. The full realization of the protection we had experienced came when I saw the perambulator full of concrete from the porch roof. We were unharmed.
