Foot infection yields when truth is applied
I want to express my gratitude for a new understanding of Mrs. Eddy's reassuring words (Science and Health, p. 494), "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need." At one time my human need was to be freed from an infection in my right foot. It was most difficult for me to walk or even to stand upon it without intense pain. I attempted to solve the problem with the help of my husband; but as the infection began to spread rather than to disappear, I felt that I should call a practitioner. I was anxious to obtain this healing, for I desired to be in my place as a Reader at church on Sunday; also I had made reservations to make a short stay at the Christian Science Benevolent Association Sanatorium at Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, and this visit was to start soon.
The practitioner assured me that nothing would stand in my way, and his courage strengthened me: but the infection continued to spread. I needed to be freed from the fear that being on the foot could irritate it and from discouragement caused by a delayed healing. Again the practitioner was called, and special help was asked for in order that I might fill my place the following day.
When I awoke from a peaceful night's rest, an article from The Home Forum page of The Christian Science Monitor was read aloud to me. It was entitled "Enlightened Faith" and its message so completely met my human need that I knew I would be in my place, and be there in comfort in spite of the material evidence which was demanding consideration. The following words seemed to speak out with authority: "Enlightened faith is a humble and confident trust in God, a buoyant and lively assurance that He is, that He cares for us, loving us always without cessation." The rest of the article was filled with so many wonderful truths that I read it over and over again. When time for the service came, I put on a dress shoe and stood throughout the whole hour in perfect case. In a short while the condition vanished completely.
