Our family came into Christian Science...

Our family came into Christian Science when I was a young child through my father's quick healing of severe nervous exhaustion and insomnia, which had necessitated his giving up his work. Soon afterward my mother had a remarkable healing of double pneumonia.

At that time there was no Christian Science church in our town, but as soon as one was established, I was enrolled in the Sunday School, which I continued to attend until I went away to college. In the Sunday School I learned many truths of God and of man's relation to Him and was able to demonstrate them in small ways. Because my family had become less fearful through their knowledge of Christian Science, I was protected from having any so-called children's diseases, although at one time I was exposed to one. Through these experiences and my attendance at Sunday School and the Wednesday evening testimony meetings there gradually grew in my thought a love for Science and a desire to order my life by its teachings.

At college I had many opportunities to demonstrate the truth I had learned in physical problems, in examinations, and in personal relationships. I remember one examination in particular which was in a subject I had found rather difficult. I endeavored to clear my thought by holding firmly to the truth expressed in II Timothy (1:7), and it seemed as if the examination wrote itself. It was one of the best papers turned in.
