Of Good Report

Christian Science is making encouraging progress in Italy, especially in Rome, where it has emerged from the war markedly strengthened.

The present reinvigorated Christian Science activity is a direct outgrowth of the work done during the height of the Allied occupation by authorized Christian Science Workers sent from England to administer to the needs of the troops. Despite the confusion which followed the conquest and reconquest of this country, a beautiful Christian Science Rest Center and Reading Room was quickly established at Via dei Giardini in the center of the city. During the years that it served as a Rest Center it was visited by large numbers of military men and women of all the Allied nations and provided a quiet source of moral and spiritual help.

Its transformation to its present wholly civilian status was gradual, occurring as the number of occupying troops dwindled and as civilians interested in Christian Science before the war or from abroad took their place. At each stage problems arose, but in even instance they were solved to the advantage of the congregation. The group, which was recently recognized as a society by The Mother Church, has shown a steady growth.
