Signs of the Times
"Be of good cheer"
Dr. H. F. Rall
The Christian Advocate,
Chicago, Illinois
This is not the first dark hour for man. How dark it was in Israel when the prophets spoke! How dark in the great Mediterranean world when the first little companies of Christians gathered in Ephesus and Corinth and Rome! ... But the minorities have won out! ... The little companies— "not many wise ... not many mighty"—grew to a great company that lived on when Rome fell. With God, one shall chase a thousand and two shall put ten thousand to flight.
Love is stronger than hate; truth in the end puts error to flight because love and truth are God. Sin is disintegrative and self-destructive because it is fighting light and life and truth—that is, it is fighting God. In the darkest hour of history the Master said (John 16:33), "Be of good cheer; I have overcome the world."
