"The true wealth of society"

Christopher Clear
Mid-Devon Advertiser
Newton Abbott, England

'"Nature seems to exist for the excellent," said Emerson. "The world is upheld by the veracity of good men; they make the earth wholesome. They who lived with them found life glad and nutritious. Life is sweet and tolerable in our belief of such society." That was well spoken.

"The veracity of good men." ... Good men are the true wealth of society. They come to us with no axe to grind, no self-seeking, no crowding for office and power; they strive for a community of men with singleness of purpose, nobility of aim, and the welfare of the whole. It warms the heart to think of them; they stand out in society; the public knows them for what they are.
