Christian Science, revealed by...

Christian Science, revealed by its Discoverer, Mary Baker Eddy, first appealed to me as a religion. After I read the opening chapter on Prayer in her book Science and Health, my prejudice towards this Science was healed, and I recognized that it was indeed the truth demonstrated nearly two thousand years ago by Christ Jesus.

My first healing was that of frequent attacks of tonsillitis. This condition was supposed by the family to be inherited and natural for me to have. My eldest sister, a physician, had had my tonsils removed before my departure for a two-year stay in Europe as an art student. The condition persisted, however, and on my return she took me to a throat specialist to see what else might be done. He prescribed a medicine to be taken each morning for the rest of my life to keep down any inflammation. At that time I was beginning the study of Christian Science and rebelled at a law that would hold me in such bondage. At the first postal station I came to after leaving his office I mailed the medicine back to the doctor, and took my stand on the side of Truth. My throat was healed completely and permanently.

Another difficulty that was supposed to be inherited was that of frequent sties on my eyelids. Finally one eye became so swollen and unsightly that I had to wear a bandage over it. I was at a loss to know how to cope with the situation, so I called on a practitioner for help. She talked with me for a few moments, gave me one of our Leader's works to read during her treatment, and then made an encouraging statement that all was well. I returned to my studio, and in the morning the eye was normal. Divine Mind had again been proved to be the great Physician. That trouble has never recurred in the more than twenty years that have followed.
