To me, the most outstanding proof of healing that I have experienced in my twenty-five years of study of Christian Science and application of what I have learned from the Bible and the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, was that of a severe burn from steam.

I had just finished studying the Lesson-Sermon, and had gone with my daughter to a public laundry to do our washing. As we approached the tubs assigned to us for use, a hot water hose became disconnected directly above us, and a column of steam struck me with considerable force just over my heart.

The manager called, "Look out!" and in turning to listen I was moved out of the path of the steam. Those about us rushed to me, asking if I was hurt. I replied that I did not feel that I was hurt. My daughter said, "Mother, you will have to go home for some dry clothing." I replied, "Maybe not," and proceeded to shake some of the water off my clothes, letting the air in next to my skin. Then I felt a stinging sensation. I knew instantly that I did not have to accept the argument of pain, since God is the only power, and He is not in the wind, the fire, or the earthquake, but in the "still small voice."
