Books for Sunday School Use

The books used in the classes of The Mother Church Sunday School are the same as those used in the church services, namely, the Bible and the Christian Science textbook. "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, together with the Christian Science Quarterly. The Christian Science Hymnal is not employed as a textbook in the classes, but occasional reference may be made to a hymn when it applies to the lesson that is being taught.

No other literature is used in the classes. No cards containing Bible verses are used. Even the smallest pupils are taught to go direct to the Bible for their study of the Scriptures. Thus they become familiar with the Bible and early learn to use it as their "chart of life." The Scriptures are taught in the light of the pure teachings of our Leader, as she presents them in the textbook. Hence no diagrams, maps, pictures, nor any books of Bible stories, are brought to the classes, and no drawings are made by teacher or pupil. While teacher and pupil may bring to Sunday School brief notations relating to the lesson, no extensive notes are brought to class or made in the class.

Teachers may quote from any of the writings of our Leader or from any of our authorized publications and they may refer pupils to them for home use. Authorized works on Christian Science are made available to the pupils through the Sunday School lending library.
