In 1922, I received the Christian Science...
In 1922, I received the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, from a school chum. I was delighted with it from the start and read it every spare moment. This study brought many demonstrations of good to me. Although the members of my family did not seem interested, after I married and moved away one sister joined the local branch church and had class instruction.
I have proved that no claim of evil can permanently fasten itself upon a sincere student of Christian Science. God is omnipotent, and our Leader tells us in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 10), "The good cannot lose their God their help in times of trouble." She also says, "And if they fall they shall rise again, stronger than before the stumble." Because of disappointments and the loss of persons and things deemed necessary to my happiness. I wandered into a far country of false belief in material pleasures. Like the prodigal son. I too awakened to Truth's demands and was humbly willing to do anything God wanted me to do.
My freedom was not accomplished at once, but when I found that there was nothing holding me but wrong thinking, and that I need work out only my own salvation. I was healed, and able to follow the teachings of Christian Science as I had started out to do. Debts of long standing were paid when I began to love more and gave up thoughts of resentment toward one who I thought had been unjust to me. Wrong companions, together with social smoking and drinking, disappeared from my experience, and later the drinking of tea and coffee.
