Church Dedications

Note: Christian Science churches are dedicated only when free from debt.

Bayonne, New Jersey (First Church).

Dedicatory services were conducted on Sunday, March 10, 1946, by First Church of Christ, Scientist, Bayonne, in the church edifice at 36 Avenue B. During the services the First Reader presented the following history of the church:

In the latter part of November, 1911, twelve persons, some of whom were members of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, met in a private home to discuss the advisability of holding Christian Science services in Bayonne, with the result that a committee was appointed to secure a suitable place for meeting. The Republican Club Hall, on Broadway and Thirty-ninth Street, was rented for this purpose, and the first Sunday morning service was held on December 3. These services were continued every Sunday throughout the winter and spring, with increased attendance and interest. Two or three Wednesday evening meetings were also held.
