It is nearly twenty years since I first heard of Christian Science. During that time I have experienced many healings, both mental and physical.
I am especially grateful for the healing of one of my dear ones, who, while at her work lifting a heavy box onto wheels, slipped and fell onto the wheels, injuring her ribs. After staying at home for a day or two and applying her understanding of the truth, she was able to return to her work. The authorities, however, on learning the reason for her absence, would not allow her to work, but sent her away to visit a doctor. Material remedies were prescribed but were not used. In a few days came a letter stating that under the law she was required to present herself at a certain doctor's surgery for examination.
As we sat in the crowded waiting room, we began to wonder whether it was right for us to be there. At once came the comforting assurance, "Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's" (Mark 12:17). When our turn came, the examiner could find no trace of any injury to the ribs; that part of the healing was complete. But he found that the condition of the chest was unsatisfactory, and he called in another doctor, who agreed that something was wrong. We both mentally denied this, affirming that there could be nothing wrong with God's child.
