When I reached the age of thirty...

When I reached the age of thirty years I was thoroughly convinced that I needed to understand God. Because ability and success were always considered personal possessions, the preceding years had been spent obtaining an academic education sufficient to meet life's problems. The fundamental desire was always good, but since I knew nothing about God, and expected to become successful by the sheer force of my own labor, as much power was given to evil as to good, if not more.

At this time, because of numerous failures and inability to rise above human frailties, I gladly accepted the opportunity to embrace the teachings of the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings. This recognition of the need of working out my salvation through spiritual channels, I now understand, was the result of right desire, or prayer.

During the intervening years an honest effort was made to accept and live the teachings of Christian Science. This has brought about many changes in character and disposition, together with numerous physical healings, including those of stomach ulcers, chronic headaches, broken bone, hemorrhages, hernia, and other ills. The support of infinite divine Love was experienced when I was tempted sorely by loss and grief. This teaching has also brought to me a larger measure of success and more abundant supply. Experiences of these later years have proved the value of facing life's problems with right reason and revelation. Furthermore, they have enabled me to understand better what Mrs. Eddy wrote in one of her poems (Poems, p. 12).
