Utilizing the Law of God
Each day brings new opportunities for lifting thought above material sense into the realm of the real. The fact that we failed in our undertakings yesterday is no reason for our failing today, for by the application of God's spiritual law all problems can be solved, all needs supplied. If we will not admit defeat, we cannot be defeated. It is not sufficient to watch our thinking concerning ourselves alone, but we must demonstrate the law of Love in our thoughts of and relations with our relatives, friends, and neighbors.
Jesus always proved God's law of Love and saw it as ever available, unchanging, and perfect. His words and works teach us that right thoughts are externalized in our daily experiences. Therefore, when troubling suggestions knock at the door of human consciousness it is wise to stop for a moment and ask ourselves: "Are these thoughts good? Are they from God?" or, "Are they evil? Do they lead to sin, sickness, lack, or evil of any kind?" If they are the latter, let us dismiss them quickly by knowing that good thoughts alone are helpful and productive. Mary Baker Eddy, the beloved Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, states (No and Yes, p.30), "God's law is in three words, 'I am All;' and this perfect law is ever present to rebuke any claim of another law."
This supreme law of God was practically applied by a student of Christian Science who, after a business failure, found herself in debt. With a sincere desire to meet her obligations, she turned unreservedly to God, remembering Mrs. Eddy's words (Miscellaneous Writings, p.174), "Let us open our affections to the Principle that moves all in harmony,—from the falling of a sparrow to the rolling of a world."
