It is with great joy that I give this testimony because Christian Science has brought so much happiness into my life.

In 1939 I volunteered to serve with His Majesty's Forces, and since that time I have had many proofs of healing through Christian Science.

I spent three days on the beaches during the evacuation of Dunkirk, and although I was subjected to many of the horrors of warfare I emerged unharmed. To me this was a most glorious experience, for it taught me that, no matter what the experience or how alarming it may seem to be, God is right with us and Truth can never be overthrown. In those dark days God was my "refuge and strength" (Ps. 46:1) indeed, and this thought was my only protection as I lay on the beaches under constant shellfire and bombardment. Thoughts of hunger, fatigue, weariness, and despair were overcome by the knowledge that God is the only lawmaker, "and none can stay his hand" (Dan. 4:35). No material law of any kind can interfere with the law of God, which always brings perfect freedom and harmony.
