Christian Science came to me...

Christian Science came to me sixty-one years ago, when I was healed very quickly of a bad stomach trouble and many other complaints. I had had several physicians, but like the woman in the Bible (Mark 5:26) I was "nothing bettered, but rather grew worse." When I began to see that God is Love, what a blessing I received, for I had previously believed in a personal God.

I should like to speak of an experience I had over two years ago. I coughed for two hours steadily. I began to think that I had done all I knew how to do, for I had applied the truth the best I knew. Then these words came to me from "Miscellaneous Writings" by Mrs. Eddy (p.93): "Your answer is, that neither fear nor sin can bring on disease or bring back disease, since there is in reality no disease." Then I thought of her words on page 120 of Science and Health: "Health is not a condition of matter, but of Mind; nor can the material senses bear reliable testimony on the subject of health." As I pondered this statement, the Master's words (John (8:32), "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free," came to me. In a little while I fell asleep, and slept until morning. I did not have another hard coughing spell. The fear departed, and I was healed.

I am grateful that I had class instruction in my early days in Christian Science. I am very grateful for our periodicals, which bring us spiritual food continually; also for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, and for having had the privilege of serving in several branch churches. I am grateful to God for His "unspeakable gift," and to our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, for her faithful life, which enabled her to give Christian Science to the world.—(Mrs.) Mary Abbie Robie, Concord, New Hampshire.
