Agreement
Human experiences are largely made up of agreements. Mankind's every thought, act, or interest is in agreement with something. Christian Science teaches man's agreement with the law of God, that man is under the absolute control of omniscient Mind, which holds complete jurisdiction and authority over his consciousness, determining his every activity. Putting God first, agreeing that there is nothing more to man than the expression of God, brings deliverance from error.
Believing in the five physical senses is agreeing with matter, agreeing that there is a material creation. Because of their willingness to agree to certain phases of mortal thinking, men find themselves experiencing failure, impotence, sin, sickness, death, destruction. The material sense of selfhood with all its unhappy conditions is the result of agreeing that there is a mortal mind which can form conditions for man. The opposite state of thinking, the realization in some measure of man's immortality, results in health, joy, activity, and abundance. We must agree to health, love, affluence, harmony, joy, before they can be made manifest. "Choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell" (Josh. 24:15). Agree to serve God this day and find peace.
We must be willing to say honestly and humbly (Luke 22:42), "Not my will, but thine, be done," to pray as our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, counsels us (Church Manual, Art. VIII, Sect. 4), "Let the reign of divine Truth, Life, and Love be established in me, and rule out of me all sin." We must agree to put aside pride of power and human ambition and see God's reign, the kingdom of heaven.
