Gratitude for Christian Science is more than pleased satisfaction with its benefits. The Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, has given us a wealth of great teaching which touches every phase of human living. For four lines alone—the definition of "God," on page 587 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy—the world will always be indebted to her.

It is inevitable, however, that healing should result from an honest application of Christian Science. As a result of reading Science and Health my mother was healed over twenty years ago of what physicians had diagnosed as sciatica. She was released from invalidism to a life of usefulness. Three years ago she was suddenly stricken with deafness, but she kept up a steady resistance to it, encouraged by a friend who is a faithful practitioner. After months of study and growth, during which she made a constant effort to hear God's voice, she awakened one morning hearing better than ever. This healing is a source of joy and encouragement to us every day.

Eight years ago I was suddenly taken ill and my life was despaired of. When I was able to reach a practitioner, I was so quickly healed that in three days I was able to drive, walk, run, climb, swim, and engage in every normal activity. About four years ago I caught my foot on a rock and injured it so severely that the foot was badly swollen and I had to be carried. Christian Science treatment was begun, and with no other aid I was immediately relieved of pain. Two days later I walked three miles in perfect comfort. Christian Science has given us fortitude and endurance, protection and guidance. It has enabled me to hold two exacting jobs during the war.
