About twelve years ago I was...
About twelve years ago I was under the care of two doctors, and although they were doing their best I made no progress towards recovering my health. My working days were drawing to a close when Christian Science was presented to me, and although at first I refused to have anything to do with it, afterwards I consented to give it a fair trial. A few days later I dismissed the two doctors, threw away the medicines which they had prescribed, and commenced earnestly to study Christian Science. I decided to rely entirely upon its teachings. The results proved unmistakably the healing power of Truth as taught in Christian Science. Ailments, some of very long standing, commenced to disappear. Colds, which had previously been continuous, gradually became less frequent, until they became a rare exception. Constipation was healed. When I learned that man is supported and sustained by Mind, God, I was able for the first time in seventeen years to remove a bandage from my ankle, and yet feel properly supported.
The healing of a nervous breakdown took longer. It required much study, and the persistent, patient help of a practitioner before the healing was complete. When the healing came, it revolutionized my life, and altered the course of events for several other people also. As the result of Christian Science, my wife, who had had to take me to my work, because I had too much fear to go by myself, was freed from that task. For the help which I have received from the Christian Science practitioner, and for the truth which he has helped me to understand, I become continually more and more grateful.
Amongst many other things, Christian Science has given me a new concept of work. This enabled me, when the time was right, to give up what to material sense appeared to be an assured position. It was a progressive step which I could never have taken without Christian Science, and it proved to me that God's law of progress is unalterable, and is operating all the time. My new position, which is very harmonious, has enabled me to demonstrate to a large extent over one of the greatest enemies of mankind today, the belief in shortage of time. If a Christian Scientist is believing in shortage of time, he will find that it tends to limit his spiritual activities. Shortages of any sort are not qualities of Mind, and shortage of time is only a mortal belief.
