Where to Begin

A Christian Science student, suffering from ill-health and disturbed over an inharmonious situation, applied to a Christian Science practitioner for help. She ended the relating of her difficulties with this statement: "Everything is so involved that I don't know where to begin."

Smilingly the practitioner suggested, "Why not begin with God?" Then she read aloud this statement by Mary Baker Eddy from "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (p. 274): "To begin rightly enables one to end rightly, and thus it is that one achieves the Science of Life, demonstrates health, holiness, and immortality."

Many facts of God's perfect creation were then unfolded to the student, who was asked to direct her efforts to seeking a clearer understanding of man's true being. This, she was told, was the best way to attain the desired harmony. Though disappointed that the practitioner had evidenced so little interest in her troubles, the student promised to follow the recommendation.
