During the joyous experience of...

During the joyous experience of class instruction an illustration was given that explained quite succinctly a healing I experienced a few years ago. The preparing of a victory garden was compared to the working out of a problem in Christian Science. To have a garden one must prepare the soil, remove rocks, uproot weeds: then seed must be planted. Denying error and casting out wrong thinking, it was shown, prepare the soil, while rejoicing and affirming the truth are the seeds that bring-forth healing and release.

I had suffered several years from a pain in the hip. The pain was augmented greatly when I stood for any length of time or exercised very much. It also hindered my walking. When doing my Science work about it I diligently declared the material body had no more sensation than a chair or table.

Then one evening another problem presented itself—one seemingly of great injustice. I put myself on the side of God, and in so doing I experienced a sense of spiritual joy never before reached. Not only was the problem of injustice solved, but my hip was healed also. The seed of joyous affirmation had been planted. I saw then that when working for my hip I had faithfully dug up the weeds, and discarded the debris, but had planted no seed; the work had all been denial. Next day I started on an automobile journey and at the termination of two days of driving I ran up some stairs with no inconvenience. The same week I stood for hours canning fruit. The pain was gone and it has never returned.
