Excerpts from Letters Concerning Christian Science Wartime Activities

[From a Serviceman in India]

Physical healings have been numerous. On one occasion I struggled to overcome a painful difficulty but with little apparent success. Being in the forces, I eventually had to report to the medical authorities, who diagnosed the trouble as an appendicular abscess and refused to let me walk another inch. Upon being admitted to a hospital for an operation, I cabled home for help from a Christian. Science practitioner, and awoke the following morning free, without pain or discomfort. The medical authorities, however, sent me home on leave, with the intention of operating when I returned. Loving work was continued by the practitioner, with the result that on my return a senior medical officer examined me, and declared that there was no sign of physical abnormality. He was at a loss to understand why I had been given leave.

On another occasion I was told by the medical authorities that a condition was present, the only cure for which was a surgical operation. I sought help from a volunteer Christian Science Wartime Worker in India, and though the healing was slow, I am extremely grateful for the increased spiritual understanding gained. After five months of patient work, I was healed. I am also grateful for the joy and comfort experienced in combating the sense of separation from loved ones.
