Twenty-two years ago, when I was in great need of help. Christian Science was recommended to me.

At this particular time I was in my senior year at college, and had been engrossed in student activities. Just before midyear examinations I tried to make up for lost time in my studies and classes by cramming for the examinations at the last moment. Night after night Istudied until I could not keep my eyes open any longer. I drank much coffee and smoked many cigarettes, only to discover each morning that my work of the night before was for the most part wrong, and I was too nervous to meet the examinations with any degree of success.

The net result of this experience was that I failed in more than, half my studies. As a consequence I was called before the head of the Engineering Department and told that it would be impossible for me to get my degree that year, and that it would be necessary for me to complete another full or at least half year of study before I could graduate. I realized then that I wanted the degree more than ever, and it seemed that just at the time I should receive it, it was lost, for I did not feel that I could afford to attend college for another semester. I therefore told the head professor that if I had to return another year I might as well quit at once. However, after some discussion he told me to stay and try to make up the work in the studies in which I had failed, and then take make-up examinations during the Easter vacation. Things seemed almost hopeless to me, and my parents suggested that I leave school for the remainder of the year and come home.
