I should like to tell of my first...
I should like to tell of my first healing in Christian Science, which occurred thirty years ago, and which has been permanent. I had been in poor health for a long time, and had been treated by many physicians, but received only temporary relief. I was unable to sleep or to retain nourishment of any kind. Three doctors told my husband that unless I was operated on at once I could not live a week. The doctors gave very little encouragement as to the outcome of the operation, so I could not consent to it.
At this time a friend came to see me and brought her copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, which she read to me. She stayed with me for an hour, and during that hour I had the first sleep I had had for several weeks. Then she told me how I could have help from a practitioner and asked me to try Christian Science. My husband and I talked it over and decided to see what there was to this new-found religion, which neither of us knew anything about.
The next day I was taken to a practitioner. I shall never forget that happy experience. After we had talked for a few minutes, she handed me the textbook opened to the chapter on Prayer and asked me to read it. I had never read anything so wonderful as the Lord's Prayer with its spiritual interpretation (pp. 16, 17), and I was healed. I then walked the eighteen blocks to my home, ate a good supper, and slept all night.
