For years I have benefited by...
For years I have benefited by reading the testimonies which appear in our authorized periodicals. I have enjoyed reading these, because I know they are a constant illumination of the unfailing healing power found in Christian Science. And it is important to be reminded that what one has understood and accomplished, another can see and do. The teachings of Mary Baker Eddy have constant application to all our needs; and Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, voiced an abiding promise, when he said, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father."
Several years ago I had a fall, and as I struck the ground, I felt something snap or become misplaced in my shoulder. As I commenced declaring the truth as to the perfection of God and His man, words that I had read many times, in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy (page 71, lines 7–9), came to thought. The storing of the truth in my consciousness had established a bulwark and strong defense, instantly available. I saw that, to overcome the claim confronting me, I must persist in the truth that the accident had never happened, no matter how real it seemed to be. I stood steadfastly, and during the entire experience I never permitted myself to think about that part of my body, even though at first I could not exclude the discomfort from consciousness.
I was able to attend to all my duties. I ushered at church, attended a committee meeting, taught my Sunday school class, and went regularly to my office. And I am certain that very few knew of the battle that was going on. I am thankful that in a few days the victory was apparent to me, and a normal condition of harmony replaced the stiffness and discomfort.
