One of my first healings in Christian Science was of an internal displacement which had troubled me since the birth of my son seven years previously. With only a slight understanding of Science, I worked for some time with no apparent result. One night I retired feeling very much depressed, and when I was getting into bed the thought came to me that I was just resting in God's arms. I said, "O God, help me; I have done all that I can do." I then went to sleep, thinking that a practitioner could be called in the morning, but on rising the next morning I found that I was healed. This was a great lesson to me. I had surrendered, realizing the truth of what our Leader says in Science and Health (p. 419), "Your true course is to destroy the foe, and leave the field to God, Life, Truth, and Love, remembering that God and His ideas alone are real and harmonious."

Next I should like to tell of a remarkable healing of a hemorrhage which lasted three months. Eventually I felt it wise to stay in bed for a week, thinking that rest from physical activity would help, but it did not do so. At the end of the week the thought came (ibid., p. 393), "Take possession of your body, and govern its feeling and action." I endeavored to do this, only to find myself still in a very weak condition. Then I turned wholly to God and said, "Father, I know this is not true nor real, but please show me the way." Instantly an angel voice said, "Stop believing it." I at once saw the simplicity of the statement, and said aloud to the error, "I will not believe you from this very moment." In a few hours the hemorrhage abated, and in a few days I was entirely well.

At another time I spilled a considerable amount of boiling fat from the oven on my legs and feet. I realized clearly that as a spiritual idea I could not be harmed. While eating my dinner I continued to know that I was untouched, feeling no pain whatsoever. I then put on clean stockings, and to my amazement found there was no mark at all on my legs and feet. After thinking this over I saw that because I had not let the suggestion of accident into my consciousness it could not be manifested anywhere.
