"Though thou hast not known me"

As long ago
The Lord to Cyrus spake,
Strengthening him to break
The captives' chains;

And as to men
Through many burdened years
Has come to still their fears
The voice of God;

So still today
The tender tones of Love
Rise clear and strong above
Earth's troubled cries,

And we can hear
The voice of God and know
He guides us, as we go,
With ageless words—

God girded thee
Though thou hast known Him not,
Upheld, and safely brought
Thee through the dark.

For even though
To empty, worldly ways
Thou gavest all thy praise,
He strengthened thee.

And while thy trust
Was worshipful of men,
He freshened thee again
And called thy name.

While worldly pride
And faith in matter's modes
And claims made dark inroads
Upon thy health,

God still thee led;
And when earth's troubles pressed
He ever gave thee rest
And loved His own.

O child of Love,
Look up and see the night
Grow tender, warm, and bright,
Receive thy sight!

Be unafraid;
Rejoice that matters vaunts
Are only empty taunts
And have no power.

God made thee whole!
Thou canst know only joy
And Love without alloy,
Reflecting Soul.
