Gravitating Godward

How accurate, positive, and ever present is the attraction of God, good! It heals, blesses, inspires, and satisfies. It lifts thought to the very pinnacle of health, happiness, and purity.

In the textbook of Christian Science, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, we read (p. 102): "There is but one real attraction, that of Spirit. The pointing of the needle to the pole symbolizes this all-embracing power or the attraction of God divine Mind." God is Love, and Love truly draws men to it; it destroys self-pity, loneliness, jealousy, envy, and hatred. These negative thoughts cannot exist in the presence of Love, for Love knows nothing unlike its own lovely qualities.

Our journey from sense to Soul is upward. Thought is lifted to heights before unknown as one keeps one's vision clear and on things above. Christ Jesus looked above and beyond what seemed to be so disconcerting to others. When he healed Bartimaeus, in the place of a blind mortal he beheld the real man. He did not accept a withered hand as real when his accusers sat ready to denounce him but he spoke with authority to the man standing before him: "Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other." Jesus constantly perceived the man God created, forever out of reach of the claims of error, and this exalted state of consciousness drew others to him. When he went up into a mountain to pray, into the wilderness, or to the shores of a lake, the people thronged him. They were drawn to him because men naturally are attracted to good. How well our blessed Master knew this when he said. "And I, it I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me."
