My gratitude to God for Christian Science...

My gratitude to God for Christian Science is great.

From the age of ten I had worn glasses. I occasionally tried to put them off because of vanity, but was always compelled to return to them. Then a time came when I suffered from nausea if I forgot to put on my glasses; also, my sight was so poor that I was unable to distinguish one object or individual from another on a moving picture screen without the aid of spectacles. One of the best oculists in our city told me that I should from then on have to wear glasses at all times or look forward to the possibility of going blind.

My fiancé, who had had Christian Science all his life, at no time tried to prevail upon me to read or use the truth, which I now see was wisdom, for I was one whom such methods would have driven away. And so it was, about three months after I got my last pair of glasses, that with no thought of healing I asked to borrow his copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I borrowed the book for two reasons: first, out of curiosity; secondly, because I wanted to be fair and to understand something of the religion of the man I was going to marry.
