Sometimes, when reading the articles in our periodicals, we get a sudden flash of light that illumines a page of our past experience which we have not fully understood. This was the case with me when I read in the August, 1941, issue of The Christian Science Journal an editorial entitled "Home," which arrested my attention. I pondered over it deeply, and I feel I owe a great debt of gratitude to its author.

Home had always meant for me the place where I lived with my loved ones, and I had never thought of studying "home" from the metaphysical point of view. My dear mother, who had lived with me and been my constant care for twenty years, in her last years used to fret a little because she could not help me any longer in household affairs, and I comforted her by telling her that her province was that of the "homemaker," and that without her presence there our home would be just a house and not a home.

This seemed to me true, but I now see that it was false according to spiritual sense. And when, recently, my mother passed on, I experienced a terrible feeling of desolation, of being uprooted and cut off from those I loved.
