For a long time we as a family...
For a long time we as a family have depended on Christian Science for our every need. At first I depended a great deal on the work of loving practitioners, and I am very grateful to them for having so much patience with one who seemed slow in grasping the truth. I soon found that we have work to do ourselves, and began a more systematic study.
At one time I asked a practitioner for help when there seemed to be such a financial lack that we did not know which way to turn. The first question she asked was if I were utilizing the good I already had. I thought I was. Then she asked if I had all of Mrs. Eddy's books to read, and I had to say, "No." She told me that I could go to the Reading Room and read and study every one of them. I saw that I was not utilizing the good I already had; so how could I receive more? This was part of my work that led to church membership, for which I am more grateful every day. The difficulties have faded away for each one in the family. During this time I learned what real employment is—reflecting God, good—and this gives us plenty of work to do.
At another time I had an experience in which I had to do my own work. While carrying some fruit jars, I fell down the basement steps. The first thought which came to me was that I should have to lie there until someone came home. And then I knew that God is always taking care of me and that I could get up without waiting for anyone. I arose and went up the steps with some difficulty and went about my work, getting the dinner ready the best way I could, reversing every erroneous thought that came and replacing it with the truth, as we are taught in Christian Science. When my husband came home there was just a little soreness left, and this finally disappeared. There was no discoloration at all afterward.
